November National Adoption Awareness Month Across North America
Into Every Life A Ray Of Sunshine Must Shine.
We have six wonderful Grandchildren, our adopted one is a ray of sunshine in our lives.
In Ontario there are over 9,000 children and youth who are wards of the province. Only a fraction of these children will find the legal and emotional support of a permanent family in spite of the fact that more than 2,500 families have been fully qualified to adopt.
"This year the Adoption Council of Ontario is committed to raising awareness about the need of all children to have a legally committed 'forever family'. Specifically, we want to ensure that EVERY child in permanent foster care has an action plan that will give them a family to grow up in. We want both Children's Aid Societies and adoptive families to have resources and supports from the government so they can do the complex work of creating life long families through adoption." source the Adoption Council of Ontario.
Be A Ray Of Sunshine In A Childs Life
Help the Council by urging the Ontario Government to speed up changes in the public adoption system so that more children can find a stable loving family. No one should live with the possibility of coming home from school to find the social worker there to say you are moving once again to another foster home.
You can help by doing two simple things.
1. Visit www.actiononadoption.ca to join our Facebook page where we'll have news and updates on our efforts.
2. E-mail Premier McGuinty and Children and Youth Services Minister Laurel Broten. Their e-mail addresses and a suggested letter are below. Be sure to add your name and address at the bottom. And don't forget to copy them on the letter too:

Hi Kathy, thank you for your efforts in trying to help these children. I can't imagine what it must be like to not have a forever family.
Ann - Both Barrie and I watched as the young foster children our parents looked after came and went ..... we still have very close connections to two and consider them both brothers. Barrie says one is both his brother and his brother inlaw as he lived with both our families for a while.
Kathy I read an interesting story in the Star the other day about the problems a couple had adopting an older child, yet there are so many looking to be adopted.
The process is long and of course there is never enough staff.
Jenny - the process is sometimes very long The Adoption Council is trying to get the process moving a little faster
